About Us
As the timeline below shows, we were established over 170 years ago, in 1848, as “inventors, engineers and specialists”.
Along with being specialists in tourniquet machines, over time we have grown and become known across the world as experts in medical, security and veterinary equipment. Over the last 25 years, we have expanded our overseas sales activities in developing countries, becoming heavily involved in turnkey tender projects – dealing with projects from project consultancy stage to design, project management, procurement, shipping, logistics, commissioning and training.
We are proud to handle more than 400 NHS accounts in the UK as well as holding long term contracts with UNICEF, who are well known for having rigorous selection criteria before accepting any company as a supplier.
In addition, we supply security equipment to the UK government to whom we also provide ongoing maintenance and aftercare.
Braun established and known as Inventors, Engineers and Specialists. Mr Braun frequently wrote articles for the Daily Express on inventions.
Reginald Shepherd served his engineering apprenticeship. Braun at this time made miniature working models of steam trains such as the Silver Link Train.
Reginald bought the company and Braun transferred their fine engineering skills into manufacturing medical equipment.
Braun worked with specialists to assist the production of the famous Boyles Anaesthetic Machine.
In 1963 Braun & co. Limited co-designed the self-compensating tourniquet, a major advance in blood regulating apparatus. The device has been so successful up until the current day and has been copied by many other companies.
Barry Shepherd succeeded his father Reg in running Braun.
Braun expanded, moving into exporting.
Using their experience with medical equipment Braun diversified into manufacturing and supplying security equipment.
